How much does a website cost?

A new website does not cost as much as you might think.  Of course, the cost will depend on the level of design complexity and the overall size of the website.  However, proper planning and layout before the site construction begins can save you an average of about 20%.

 

Below are some helpful tips that will help you get the most from your website budget.

• Create a detailed project description of each web page you would like created along with descriptions of how the page should look and feel. 
• List colors to use for everything including fonts, banners, borders, page breaks, etc.  You will never hear a web designer tell you that you are being too descriptive.  Once you are finished planning, make sure that your notes are organized cleanly in a notebook or a word processing file.
• STICK TO YOUR ORIGINAL PLAN  - Make sure that design changes, colors, layout, etc. are concrete before you sign off on the template proof.  Once construction begins, content is inserted, links are completed, etc.
• PROOFREAD YOUR CONTENT - If you send word documents full of content, make sure the content has been proofread and is exactly the way you would like it presented on the website.
• MANAGE YOUR PHOTO COLLECTION - Make sure any photos you would like incorporated into the website are burned to a cd or saved in a method that they can all be submitted to the web designer at once.  Try to submit only the photos that should be used.

These are just few ways to save your website budget.  Essentially, make sure that your web designers are handling the technical stuff, and if necessary, you can save some money by managing some of the less technical tasks associated with your new website.
